Turkey is a land of sun, sea, and history. The Anatolian peninsula that makes up over 90% of the country is one of the few places in the world that has been continuously inhabited since the dawn of mankind. This is one reason why one finds the remains of some fifteen thousand ancient sites many of which have not even begun to be excavated in Turkey today. As being one of the content resources of our Explore Turkey web site the book covers the most important ancient sites of Anatolia. The Seljuk Turks, the medieval successors to Byzantine military and political authority in Anatolia, left behind them numerous monumental works of architecture all over the peninsula but especially in cities like Konya, Sivas, and Erzurum. In the book some of these architectural works are introduced. The Seljuks in turn were followed by the Ottomans, whose first capital was Bursa, followed in turn by Edirne, and then Istanbul. All three cities, which house the most exquisite of Ottoman works of art and architecture, are treated extensively in the book. In addition, the book includes resort areas of a purely touristic nature. The book includes many photographs of Turkish professional photographers, some of which can be seen in our web pages.
